Vesuvius
|
The
only continental volcano, still active in Europe.
Naples would not be the same without Mount Vesuvius in its background.
It dominates the city. Among its numerous eruptions, the most famous
was in the 79 A.D. It destroyed the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum
. It last erupted in the 1944. Today Mount Vesuvius is a national
park and its slopes are covered with a lush vegetation. The same slopes
that have been providing , since the ancient times, the local populations
with the best and most celebrated wines , such as the exceptionally
famous “Lachrima Christi”.
In the sorroundings of the volcano is Torre del Greco. A small city,
very well known in all the world for its Cameos and Corals factories.
